John Webber

John Webber has been a mainstay on the NYC jazz scene for several decades. After relocating from Chicago in ‘87 he has been regularly featured with many of the top names in jazz. He has played all the main clubs in New York with great artists such as Horace Silver, Johnny Griffin, Etta Jones, George Coleman, Jimmy Cobb and many others. He has also played on countless recordings and toured the world playing many festivals and clubs overseas. As well as being a top bassist he also is an accomplished guitarist and continues to please audiences on both instruments in New York City and around the world.

[TOMOHIRO MORI TRIO]

Tomohiro Mori

Drummer, composer and educator, Tomohiro Mori was born in Fukuoka, Japan in 1992. He started playing the drums at age 3 and piano at age 5. Being raised by musical parents, Tomo was exposed to music at a very early age. His mother and father, who played piano and guitar respectively, formed a family band and played Beatles covers, in which Tomo was an active part of.

Originally, Tomo wanted to form a band with friends around his age. Although he initially did not have a strong interest in jazz, his pianist friend called Tomo to form a jazz band. Finally, he started playing jazz and formed a jazz band with his friends when he was thirteen years old. He has performed in gigs and music festivals around his hometown with this group.

After studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, he released three albums under his name and has become one of the most promising artists in New York City. He also plays a vital role in connecting the jazz scenes of New York and Japan.

[JACOB CHUNG QUARTET]

Jacob Chung - Saxophone 

Jazz saxophonist Jacob Chung moved from Toronto to New York City in 2022 and has since maintained an active performance schedule at The Django, Ornithology, Smalls, Mezzrow, Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Brvsh Cvl7r3, and other NYC clubs. Jacob plays in Rodney Green’s Jackson Miller Trio, the Chris Byars Octet, the Richard Cortez Band, and is a regular member of Erena Terakubo’s Sextet. He has also shared the stage with Ken Peplowski, the John Pizzarelli Big Band, Peter Washington, the Mingus Big Band, Pasquale Grasso, Ari Roland, and Joe Farnsworth. Jacob has performed twice at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington D.C., first in 2023 with the prestigious Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program and most recently with vibraphonist Chuck Redd in 2024. Jacob’s sophomore album The Sage (2024), which features Vincent Herring and drummer Joe Farnsworth, was named one of the best Canadian jazz releases of 2024 (Peter Hum, Ottawa Citizen).

Mason Millard - Trumpet

Mason Millard is a jazz trumpet player who's been working in New York City since 2016. He is currently the coordinator of Jazz At Lincoln Center's Middle School and High School Jazz Academies, where he coaches big band, combos and the trumpet studio. His teachers include Barry Harris, Kevin Quill, Bruce Harris and Marcus Printup. He has played in bands lead by Grant Stewart, Sacha Perry, Pasquale Grasso, Chris Byars, Alex Claffy, and Evan Sherman, and has toured internationally with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. He also leads his own group in venues around the city.

Richie Clements - Piano

Richard Clements is a pianist. In the 1970’s Richard played in various R & B bands in the northern California area. In the early 1980’s, he moved to New York City to pursue his Jazz studies with Jazz master pianist Barry Harris. Richard has worked with Clifford Jordan, Abby Lincoln, Leon Thomas, Charlie Persip and His Super Band, Clarence C. Sharp, Roland Alexander, Melba Joyce, and others. In 1997 Richard moved to Paris, France and joined the band of Archie Shepp. During this time he traveled extensively throughout Europe, Japan, standing with the Archie Shepp Band for five years. During the time Richard lived in Paris, he collaborated with Melvin Van Peebles, providing a piano soundtrack for one of his movies. In 2001 Richard moved back to New York City and directed the vocal workshop at The University of the Streets. Presently, Richard conducts a weekly piano workshop at Bill’s Place in Harlem.

Ari Roland - Bass

Ari Roland (bass) was born and raised in New York City. He began playing bass at the age of 12 and was working professionally by age 16. He studied at The Juilliard School and has played in the bands of jazz legends such as Lou Donaldson, Barry Harris and Betty Carter. Sketches From a Bassist's Album, his recent CD on Smalls Records, has received widespread critical acclaim.

Jihee Heo - Piano

Jihee Heo is a jazz pianist and composer based in New York City. Heo has showcased her talents at renowned festivals and venues, including Smalls, Mezzrow, Birdland, Guggenheim Museum, Dizzy’s at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Zinc, Django, Sunset Sunside in Paris, and Jacques Pelzer in Belgium, as well as prominent events such as The Washington D.C. Jazz Festival, Leverkusen Jazz Festival, The International African Arts Festival, The Jersey Shore Festival, Bergen PAC, and Harlem Stage, among others.

She has also played with many jazz legends, including Vincent Herring, Eric Alexander, Joe Farnsworth, Steve Davis, Lonnie Plaxico, Todd Coleman and more.

Her nonet album, “Passion” (2015, self-released), along with “Are You Ready?” (2020, featuring Marty Kenny and Rodney Green, Origin Records), has garnered attention in esteemed publications such as DownBeat Magazine, All About Jazz, France Musique, MM Jazz Korea, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s monthly jazz album roundup, and New York City Jazz Record.

Heo's latest album was recorded on September 21, 2023, at the historic Rudy Van Gelder Studio, featuring distinguished jazz musicians Joe Farnsworth on drums, Alexander Claffy on bass, and Vincent Herring on saxophone. This album is scheduled for release through Origin Records on June 21, 2024. Her music has been highlighted in various magazines and radio stations, and she is currently touring internationally to promote her recent work.

Heo holds a master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music and a bachelor’s degree from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Tivon Pennicott - Saxophone

American composer, orchestrator and tenor saxophonist.

Of Jamaican parentage, he grew up in Marietta, Georgia, but moved to Miami, Florida, where he studied music at the University of Miami. On a visit in Los Angeles, he met and was invited to perform with Kenny Burrell, who was a major influence on him. He ultimately recorded on Kenny Burrell's record Be Yourself, recorded live in Jazz at Lincoln Center at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola on September 9, 2008. Pennicott then moved to New York City in late 2009, where he formed the Sound Quartet with pianist Mike Battaglia, bassist Spencer Murphy, and drummer Kenneth Salters. These members are featured on his debut album Lover of Nature, which was released in November 2014. Pennicott was on drummer Ari Hoenig's 2018 album NY Standard.

Pennicott released his sophomore recording in the fall of 2020, Spirit Garden (New Phrase Records), having produced, orchestrated, composed and performed with and for a 26 piece string orchestra alongside several combinations of a chord-less quartet. Joe Saylor, Philip Dizack, Yasushi Nakamura, Dominique Sanders, Olivier Glissant and Yoojin Park are key contributors to the record.

The album was recorded to tape at Studio G in Brooklyn and Dreamland Recording Studios in Hurley, New York. It was mixed by Russell Elevado and mastered by Alex DeTurk.

As of September 2021 he has been a contributor to three Grammies, one with Esperanza Spalding and two with Gregory Porter. He is also the 2nd-place winner of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz competition held in 2013.

Since early 2016 he has been performing full-time with Gregory Porter,also as he continues his artist-in-residence at the Annual Charlie Parker Celebration in Kansas City, Missouri.

In 2024 he released the album Roots to Branches on Dox Records.
